The air package plays a crucial role in the mud circulation system by compensating for subsurface pressure, maintaining wellbore stability, and facilitating drilling fluid circulation. It provides the necessary back pressure to prevent kicks and blowouts, which are potentially dangerous and environmentally harmful incidents. By doing so, it also reduces the burden on mud pumps, enhancing drilling efficiency while ensuring safety and environmental protection.
 

The two main parameters of mud pump performance are displacement and pressure.
In commonly used positive circulation drilling, the surface flushing medium - water, mud, or polymer flushing fluid - is sent directly to the bottom of the drill bit through high-pressure hoses, faucets, and the center hole of the drill string under a certain pressure, in order to cool the drill bit, remove the cut rock cuttings, and transport them to the surface.
The commonly used mud pump is a piston or plunger type, which is driven by a power machine to rotate the
crankshaft of the pump. The crankshaft then drives the piston or plunger through the crosshead to perform reciprocating motion in the pump cylinder. Under the alternating action of the suction and discharge valves, the purpose of compressing and circulating flushing fluid is achieved.
